NASA has awarded contracts to Kongsberg NanoAvionics US LLC and three other companies under its Rapid Spacecraft Acquisition IV (Rapid IV) On-Ramp III contract. These contracts, with a cumulative potential value of $6 billion over a five-year period, are designed to facilitate the efficient procurement of spacecraft and related services to support NASA’s and other federal agencies’ diverse mission needs.

“Over the past several months, NanoAvionics worked with NASA to prove it can meet the agency’s technical and reliability demands.” Said Andrew Swain, NanoAvionics US Business Development Manager. “This contract will enable NanoAvionics to contribute to critical NASA missions with our expertise and flight-proven satellite buses, helping streamline scientific and national security advancements.”

The contract follows news of NASA successfully launching its ACS3 technology demonstration mission aboard a NanoAvionics small satellite bus that will test an 860 square foot (80 square meter) solar sail and deployment of a new composite boom design.

About the Rapid IV Program

The Rapid IV program makes it easier for US government agencies to conduct space missions efficiently by simplifying the process of acquiring spacecraft systems and services. This multi-award indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract allows eligible participants to receive firm-fixed-price delivery orders for space vehicles and related services for upcoming missions. This provides NASA with timely and cost-effective access to advanced spacecraft technology, crucial for a broad spectrum of mission types ranging from Earth observation to deep space exploration.
